Top Ranked Masticating Juicers of 2018

Best Masticating Juicers

In recent years, masticating juicers have started becoming a lot more popular. These juicers, also referred to as “cold-pressed” juicers, work differently from traditional centrifugal juicers. They actually work by extracting the juice through grinding and pressing. That doesn’t sound too different, but they do it without adding any heat while they pulverize the fruits and vegetables. This is why they are referred to as “cold-pressed” juicers.

Centrifugal versus Masticating Juicers: What’s the Difference?

There are a plenty of subtle differences between a centrifugal juicer, and a masticating juicer. A masticating juicer has plenty of benefits over a more traditional centrifugal one, with some of these being:

  • Retaining nutrients. The masticating juicer retains more nutrients than the centrifugal juicer because as blades are not used to shred the fruits and vegetables, they get a lot more air exposure and that leads to sped up oxidation.
  • More juice from vegetables. Masticating juicers get more out of your leafy greens than centrifugal juicers. As they extract more juice per ounce, you will see an increase in the amount of juice you have left at the end!
  • More pulp. The juice is not only more plentiful, but it also keeps more pulp. This means that the juice has more protein, more fiber, and is more nutrient rich in general when compared to juice from a centrifugal juicer.

The video below compares the overall functionality and features of centrifugal versus masticating juicers.

Overall, a masticating juicer is a lot better than a centrifugal juicer. The only little thing a centrifugal juicer may have over a masticating juicer is the fact the masticating juicer creates juice with thicker consistency. Some people may prefer juice that is thinner, but this can easily be remedied by straining the juice.

I had a juicer over twenty years ago, but it looks like they have improved tremendously over the years. I never heard of Masticating Juicers before until reading this. That’s great that it keeps more pulp with the juice. I just remember putting so much fruit in and getting very little juice out. Good to hear you get more from these masticating juicers.

      Hi Kevin,

My guess is that you have a traditional juicer. However, a traditional juicer can sometimes do the job better than a masticating juicer depending on the produce used. For example, you can obtain more carrot juice from a traditional than a masticating juicer. However, I wouldn’t use a traditional juicer to juice berries because it is too wasteful.

Yeah, it’s crazy how things have changed tremendously. Even among masticating juicers, you have horizontal and vertical juicers. Vertical models are new than the horizontal ones are known to be better, although the former still have their advantages.

      Thanks for visiting!

Very interesting. Loved the video. Really did not know that there were that many differences between juicers. I personally have never used one. Usually I just make smoothies with my blender. I may think of getting one it seems it would be a lot healthier and in the long run save you money from having to purchase juice in the store. Thanks for the info.

      Hi Darla!

There is indeed to discover in the juicing world.

I love making smoothies with my blender too, but sometimes I prefer to juice because this means I can pack more fruit or veggies per cup and get all the necessary vitamins and nutrients in the most easily digestible form. Horizontal and vertical masticating juicers are perfect if you have the budget.

      Happy juicing!
